LONDON LIMB RECONSTRUCTION - A SPECIALISED PLASTIC AND ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY SERVICE FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN
Limb reconstruction is concerned with the restoration of function to the deformed and /or shortened limb in adults and children. Deformity and shortening may be present at birth (congenital problem) or may occur as a result of injury or infection (acquired problem). The commonest cause overall is trauma - particularly fractures that do not heal properly or not at all. London Limb Reconstruction is not an accident service but we do accept cases where initial treatment has been unsuccessful. We are happy to discuss cases with the treating doctor particularly when problems are anticipated.
Our specialised work is mainly concerned with chronic problems in adults and children and would include:-
- Congenital bone dysplasias (shortening) such as fibula dysplasia
- Congenital deformities of the upper limb and hand such as radial club hand
- Congenital deformities of the foot
- Shortening and deformity in association with generalised bone conditions
- Fracture non union (problems with healing), deformity including shortening
- Post traumatic limb deformity involving soft tissue problems such as poor scarring and joint contractures
- Minimally invasive correction of bone and joint deformity, especially hip and knee arthroscopy
- A wide range of hand and foot problems
- Soft tissue reconstruction including skin grafting, scar revision and flap treatment
- Microvascular surgery
These conditions can be complex and there may be more than one problem, for example many congenitally short bones are also deformed and treatment may involve lengthening as well as correction of deformity. Our combination of experienced orthopaedic and plastic surgeons allows us to offer the full range of treatment options.
